In 1900 the Gurteen CoOp set up a creamery where the current church car park is located. Sometime during the 1920s it transferred to Ballaghadereen CoOp. By 1944 it was noted as being in ruins.
The present day house on this land did not exist in 1858. It was probably build new when the old house fell into disrepair about 1900.

I have no knowledge of a Patrick McDonnell. From the layout of the houses, it is likely that he was the father of James, living in the older family house which was worth only half of that of James, probably due to age or state of repair.
