Monasterredan Plot Number 10.

Today, this plot consists the the land from the field beside John Surlis's house up to where it joins plot 8. It includes the church car park. There also are a number of fields on the far side of the road.

In 1900 the Gurteen CoOp set up a creamery where the current church car park is located. Sometime during the 1920s it transferred to Ballaghadereen CoOp. By 1944 it was noted as being in ruins.

The present day house on this land did not exist in 1858. It was probably build new when the old house fell into disrepair about 1900.

Griffith 1858.

At this time, the plot of land was owned jointly by James McDonnell, Patrick McDonnell and Martin Golden, thought Martin owned the vast majority of the land. The Goldens acquired the house and the land from the McDonnells as part of a dowry when they married in to the family. There were 3 houses on the land in the part nearest the village along the road opposite the church.
By 1862 Patrick's house was gone.
By 1888 James' house was gone.

Family Tree for James McDonnell, Patrick McDonnell and Martin Golden.

This land was part owned by James McDonnell, whose sister Winifred married Laurence Casey from Tawnymucklagh. To access their family tree click here.

Also a part owner was Martin Golden. To access their family tree click here.

I have no knowledge of a Patrick McDonnell. From the layout of the houses, it is likely that he was the father of James, living in the older family house which was worth only half of that of James, probably due to age or state of repair.
